FBI Norfolk Citizens Academy Alumni Association Named a Gold Star Chapter

(Detroit, Michigan; June 27, 2024) – Today, FBI Norfolk Citizens Academy Alumni Association was recognized as a 2024 Gold Star Chapter for excellence in leadership, operations, and quality performance.

The Gold Star Chapter designation is presented by FBI National Citizens Academy Alumni Association to affiliate chapters that demonstrate a commitment to achieving the mission and goals of their community outreach partnership with the FBI. This prestigious recognition acknowledges the dedication of the chapter board of directors and members in achieving high quality operating standards.

“Chapters receiving the Gold Star Chapter designation personify the highest merits of the FBI and the FBI National CAAA,” said Richard Schwalberg, president of the FBI National CAAA. The recognition was announced at the Association’s 17th Annual National Leadership Conference in Detroit, Michigan.

FBI Norfolk Citizens Academy Alumni Association is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that works in partnership with the FBI Norfolk division to deliver community outreach, education, and service programs. Its members are graduates of the FBI Citizens Academy, a comprehensive program that gives business, religious, civic and community leaders an inside look at the FBI.

                                                                             



MISSION

Our mission as official ambassadors of the FBI is to support the community outreach efforts of the FBI Norfolk division through education, events and community service programs that improve public safety.

GOALS

  • To increase public awareness, understanding and goodwill for the FBI Norfolk Field Office’s mission, resources, and priorities.
  • To improve public safety through community education, programs, and resources that address the causes, risks and prevention of criminal activity.

STRATEGIC FOCUS

Three areas of strategic focus will guide our work:

Community Connections. Deepening and strengthening connections with the FBI, law enforcement and communities across southeastern Virginia and Virginia’s Eastern Shore.

Member Engagement. Cultivating greater member participation and volunteerism to achieve our education, outreach, and community service goals.

Organization Development. Building the infrastructure, systems, resources and capacity to support continued growth and development of our Chapter.


Promoting a Safer Hampton Roads

The FBI Norfolk Citizens Academy Alumni Association is a non-profit, volunteer organization that works in partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Norfolk Field Office on community outreach programs to promote safety and security across the Hampton Roads region.

As official Ambassadors for the FBI Norfolk Field Office, our mission is to educate communities about federal law enforcement issues and goals in alignment with the mission, resources and priorities of the FBI. We do this by:

  • Providing public education programs to raise awareness of community safety issues such as cyber crime, violent extremism, drugs, terrorism, gang activity, public corruption and other criminal activities.
  • Equipping Hampton Roads citizens with information, tools and resources to address public safety issues such as opioid addiction, hate crimes, online scams, human trafficking, and active shooter situations.
  • Hosting symposiums and events that facilitate collaborative relationships among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies in Hampton Roads, and promote positive community and law enforcement relationships.
  • Supporting FBI sponsored outreach and information programs to community citizens, businesses, religious organizations, government agencies, and other individuals and organizations vital to the Hampton Roads region.

Our members are graduates of the FBI Norfolk Citizens Academy, an eight week program that gives business, religious, civic and community leaders an inside look at the FBI.

The FBI Norfolk Citizens Academy Alumni Association is part of the FBI National CAAA, an organization that joins together more than 42,000 community and business leaders who are dedicated to making our neighborhoods safer and serving as volunteers in 60 chapters around the nation who graduated from the FBI’s Citizens Academy program.
